What does a solar panel look like? Most people will probably think of a rectangular plate with bluish cells in the middle and light metal frames around them. And no wonder – this describes the vast majority of solar panels quite well. Many may even have thought that such aesthetics would not be appropriate for our roof. Fortunately, there’s some flexibility in the appearance of the panels, as both the frames and the cells themselves vary in colour.
Solar panel frames are a matter of taste
The colour of the frames of solar panels has virtually no effect on their efficiency; it is a matter of taste. Both dark and light frames are made of aluminium. The black frames have a layer of paint on the surface, while the light frames have no paint, giving them the natural shade of aluminium.
However, black body panels should not be confused with single crystal panels, which have black cells . Black single-crystal cells and bluish multi-crystal cells have different properties. Aesthetically, however, the different cells are very close to each other, as even the bluish cells are typically quite dark.
Aesthetics matter
While the black frames only affect the appearance of the panels, we have found that many customers like them even more than the “traditional” panels. What do you think?
