Hannu and Marja Hyytiäinen’s detached house was built in 1966. A couple living in Äänekoski became concerned about the condition of the original drain in their house when the kitchen drain started to make some noise. Hannu and Marja looked at several companies that carry out sewer renovations and finally settled on Taloturva, which had done the work. several similar jobs in the same neighbourhood .
– We started looking at different companies that do sewer renovations and discussions were held with a number of operators. Jonne Parhiala from House Security came to visit us and his experience and what he told us about the renovation contributed to our choice. He also told me about the materials used and their quality,” Hannu Hyytiäinen recalls.
– There were properties in the area where Taloturva had carried out sewer renovations. I also got contact details of their previous customers from Jon, who I could call and ask about their experiences of the work done by Taloturva. I then called several people and they were happy. That was one aspect that gave me confidence,” Hannu says.
“There was no need to make unnecessary calls”
The sewers of a single-storey house are located under the foundation slab of the house, which would have required the floor and foundation slab to be torn open when renovating the sewers using the traditional method. So instead of the traditional method, a diving method was chosen, which meant that the floors did not need to be spiked except in a few more challenging and curvy areas.
– The normal sewer repair took four days, followed by one more day of more challenging follow-up work. For example, the old drainage pipe in the kitchen had to be cut slightly and the connection was lifted from under the floor from the insulation area to the floor surface, Hannu says.
– There was no need to break the structures. The base slab is part of the foundation of the house and breaking it weakens the structure, Hannu adds.
– We did get help with everything that came up! There was no need to make unnecessary phone calls and all the measures that were agreed upon were implemented,” Hannu says.
Residents were taken into account during the renovation
During the renovation, about half a litre of water had accidentally got on the floor of the toilet, under the cupboard. Hannu and Marja dried the water immediately after noticing it and called the building security company.
– When you plaster, you also splash a bit and that’s understandable. When we reported the situation, the next day, just to be on the safe side, Hausoturva sent a dampness meter to the site, with whom it was established that there was no problem and no damage had occurred. I thought this was quite cleverly done!
The couple were also able to live in their home normally throughout the renovation. According to Hannu, the installers from Taloturva were considerate of them as residents when they were doing the work and the renovation did not interfere with their normal living arrangements. Hannu describes Taloturva’s overall performance as fair. A two-year guarantee on the work done and a ten-year guarantee on the installation provide security for the future.
– In my experience, Taloturva’s employees are businesslike and men of their word.
