Mauno and Marja Pohjanaho live in Nokia. The couple’s home is a one-storey detached house built by the couple themselves in 1975. Building security new the house’s domestic hot water system in February 2017.
The house has a wooden frame and brick cladding. The heating is oil-fired. The total number of dwelling units is around 120. Mauno Pohjanaho built the house himself, together with two carpenters he knew.
– The new domestic hot water system in our house was installed by Hausoturva. The system was original before the replacement, i.e. about 43 years old. Some of the taps had already been replaced,” Mauno says.
– There were no symptoms, but we wanted to make sure that water damage would not happen in the future. So the renovation was purely a security measure, he adds.
“The security installer knew what he was doing”
The couple was contacted by the building security company by phone and negotiations began to carry out the renovation. The work was scheduled for February 2017. The contract included the stripping of the old service water pipes and the laying of new pipes as surface water. Previously, the pipes had been hidden inside the structures.
– The installer from the building security company knew what he was doing. The work went well and the renovation was completed on schedule in three days, Mauno sums up.
The couple spent most of the renovation time at their cottage in Ylöjärvi. They did, however, visit the site on a few occasions to monitor the progress of the work. Mauno also helped the installer a little.
– The renovation did not affect our housing, as we were mostly at the cottage during the renovation. But we were there to watch and I was there to help a little bit. Or a brake, however you think of it. I helped with small things so that the installer could work better,” Mauno laughs.
A good and functional result
According to the couple, the end result of the work looks good and the pipes have worked as they should. A pressure relief valve was also installed during the renovation to eliminate unnecessary pressure surges.
– The domestic water piping will probably be like that for the next ten or twenty years. A pressure reducer was installed for the washing machine. When the washing machine was taking in water, the pipes wanted to colick. Now there’s no more of that rattle,” Mauno says.
– Now we can also easily turn off the water and pressure if we go on a longer trip. “If you are considering renovating your domestic hot water system, I recommend that you also ask for a quote from Taloturva and take it seriously,” concludes Mauno.
