Once again this year, Energiaturva organised a lottery where the winner will receive a 12-panel photovoltaic system for their house. After the deadline for entries, the draw itself was held, and the name of Mika Västinen from Jämsäsä was drawn. However, the winner was not directly informed of the win, but instead Ilkka Nissisen, CEO of Energiaturva, started planning a small surprise party.
“I wanted to make the unveiling memorable,” says Nissinen.
Ilkka Nissinen called Mika Västinen and suggested a free solar survey to assess the suitability of the house for solar power generation and calculate an offer for a suitable solar power system for the household. The survey suited Västinen well and the very next day the CEO came to visit.
The winning bid was only revealed at the end of the survey, when it was time to present Energiaturva’s bid for the installation of the solar panels. At first, Ilkka Nissisen went through the “offer” to the Västinen couple without flinching. Finally, however, the page was reached where the price of the package is normally displayed. In the Västis’ case, however, the paper read “Congratulations on winning the prize!”.
“A couple of times you had to paraphrase a sentence before you really understood what it said,” says Mika Västinen. “We’ve never won anything before!”
“It was great fun to watch the reaction and the moment was certainly memorable for both sides,” Ilkka Nissinen comments. “At first there was confusion, and then elation took over. And the feeling stuck, I can tell you that.”
On top of that, the Västis are switching to geothermal heating, which means that their electricity consumption will soon rise.
“The lottery win came at an unusually good time for them. I am very happy for the couple,” says Nissinen.
