Buildings need to be maintained, underlines the Roti report. According to the report, there are still concerns about the ageing building stock, which is not being adequately maintained. The repair debt is growing year on year, causing huge losses to the national economy, especially in the case of water damage, which causes widespread damage.
Several million euros worth of damage is compensated each year, and ultimately the cost is reflected in the price of home insurance. Water damage claims have risen year on year, says the Federation of Finnish Financial Services in a report.
The deterioration of buildings is not just limited to detached houses, but also covers all types of property, from private frontline houses to public municipal buildings.
“The professionalism of renovators varies a lot”
There are also concerns about the professionalism of renovators and the resources of property owners to maintain building services. Professionalism varies a lot between renovators. HVIturva wants to contribute to addressing these concerns: we focus on high quality, which is reflected in our choice of materials and continuous staff training.
Secondly, we are constantly improving our operations. Every day, we ask ourselves how we can do the job better. We have a track record of innovation. In 2014, we were the first in Finland – and perhaps the first in the world – to start doing single-family home renovations. Drain renovation by submersion is the most cost-effective way to replace the drain in your house. We hope that cheaper and easier solutions will increase people’s interest in taking care of the technology in their houses.
ROTI 2017 was based on panel work by nearly 160 Finnish experts and funding from several organisations, ministries and agencies. The Finnish Single-Family Housing Association, the Finnish Real Estate Federation and several ministries have been involved.
