Timo Nurmi’s detached house in Lappeenranta was built in 1968. In autumn 2016, the original cast-iron sewers in the house were renovated by Taloturva using the immersion method. Compared to traditional sewer repair, diving was an easier and more comfortable option for Timo.
Before the repair, there had been a few blockages in the sewer pipes, which prompted Timo to look for a contractor to repair the sewer. Timo saw an advertisement in the newspaper for Taloturva, which told of a demonstration of a single-family home in a nearby area. He went to the site to see the result and was convinced of both the expertise of Taloturva and the final result of the work done.
– A representative came to visit and do a free survey. He was filming the pipes and the camera didn’t go through everywhere. Water was still getting through the pipes, but the need was clearly acute,” says Timo Nurmi.
“The whole renovation took about four days”
It was agreed that the sewer repair would start the following week. The work started by making the necessary protections, followed by a more detailed mapping of what would be done. After mapping, the drains were cleaned and rephotographed. The survey found a dozen holes in the piping system. After filming, the diving was started.

During the renovation, Timo lived with his wife in her other apartment, but he always came to see how the work was progressing. However, Timo says he could have stayed in his house throughout the renovation if he had wanted to.
– A dry toilet was brought in and I could have lived here. The water should not have been lowered,” says Timo.

Timo has been happy with the result of the renovation. The drains are now running better and more smoothly. He also didn’t have to start cleaning up after the renovation was completed, and the renovators cleaned up their own messes well, according to Timo.
– If I’d done it the traditional way it would have taken over a month, and all the mess and cleaning and living elsewhere, so it was easier. I was saved from the constant mess and pricking, and I didn’t even have to open the floors. It would have been too much work and too much hassle to use the traditional method.
– I don’t think there will be any more blockages. The building security service was professional. The representative presented his case well and an agreement was reached on the price. Now we don’t have to worry about something going wrong or plans not being executed as they should,” Timo says.
