The Mikkos decided to have their detached house built in the late 1970s in their original house. The incentive to start the renovation was provided by the reduced insurance claims in the event of water damage due to the old plumbing. Residents had a good experience with the renovation of the heating network carried out by Taloturva.
The heating of the Mikkoste house has been improved several times over the years. In addition to the original oil heating, there are air-source heat pumps, solar collectors and, most recently, an air-to-water heat pump installed a few years ago. However, the actual heating network with its pipes and radiators was original.
– The renovation of the domestic hot water was done earlier, but the heating pipes were original. The main reason for starting the renovation was that the pipes were already 38 years old. If something goes wrong, insurance will cover it better when the heating network is new,” says Ilkka Mikkonen.
Things went according to schedule
During the renovation of the Mikkoste house, the heating pipes were replaced and the old radiators were replaced with new ones. The former heating network was largely built and encased on the surface of the structures, so no changes to the pipe layout were needed.
– The renovation took eight days and went according to schedule. The workers were professionals – the experience was a good one,” Ilkka says.
The renovation did not affect housing
According to Mr Mikkonen, the eight-day work did not cause any problems for the residents. A few penetrations were found to be sealed, but these were checked with the building security company during the follow-up inspection and the necessary measures were agreed.
– There was no problem with housing. Clean-up was carried out as agreed. After the renovation, a few loose penetrations were found during the post-inspection, and it was agreed to seal them,” Ilkka says.
– Overall, the implementation went well. In our case, the benefit of the renovation is the reliability of the new heating network.
