Built in 1962, Joni Rapanen’s detached house has been completely renovated over the years. To complete the renovation round, he decided to commission a sewer renovation. The renovation was carried out by the building security company during the residents’ holiday trip, so no special housing arrangements were needed.
– I started to renovate the sewer system because the original cast iron pipes were more than 50 years old. As the house is starting to be extensively renovated anyway, it was a good idea to do the sewage renovation as well. If I ever need to put the house up for sale, it will be much easier and quicker to sell,” says Joni, explaining the background to the renovation.
– There was no problem with the drains as such, but more concerned about their age and the risk of burst pipes.
Taloturva carried out a free survey
Joni came across Taloturva while searching the internet and various forums for information about plumbing companies and customer experiences. Taloturva was among the companies that offered a free drain survey to find out about repair needs.
– I had no idea how much of this cast iron pipe goes under the house. The survey and the accompanying sewer mapping gave me an idea of how many pipes there are and what condition they are in.
– They also had a model pipe with them to show what the finished pipe will look like when the socket is inserted into the cast iron pipe. This was a very convincing detail, Joni recalls.
The renovation was done during a holiday trip
Before deciding to start the renovation, Joni gathered price information from his friends in similar houses. When the price was agreed upon, and the schedules were right, it was decided to go ahead with the renovation.
– At the end of the summer holidays, Hausotur happened to have a space in the calendar the week we went on holiday.
– I told him that when I came back, the mess had to be cleaned up and the renovation finished. That was my wish and they fulfilled it,” says Joni.
The result surprised
The sewer renovation completed the renovation cycle of the house. Joni is pleased with the way the renovation went according to contract, and says the change in the operation of the drains took him by surprise.
– I didn’t think you’d notice much of a change, but the drains are clearly pulling better now. The sinks are emptying faster than before,” says Joni.
– I am particularly pleased that the timetable I had hoped for was met. That’s something to be really pleased about, because it’s quite rare in all renovation projects these days,” Joni concludes.
