Over the years, the drains in a detached house built in 1968 by Lauri Kemilä and his wife in Jyväskylä began to show signs of clogging. Taloturva was selected as the contractor for the sewer renovation based on its careful preparation and reliability. Renovation of the sewers was carried out using the diving method in the summer of 2016.
– The renovation was prompted by the fact that the drains had become a bit dysfunctional over the years. The drains were bubbling and not draining properly. It indicates that the pipes are starting to become quite clogged,” says Lauri Kemilä.
No unexpected extra costs
Lauri asked for a few quotes to carry out the renovation. The sewers were photographed and finally the contractor was chosen to carry out the work. The choice was influenced by Taloturva’s careful preparation and a sense of reliability.

The offer was such that we could not incur any additional costs, even if something unexpected occurred during the execution of the work. The scheduling also worked out well for both of us, Lauri says of the factors that influenced the choice.
Easy diving method allowed for less sewer renovation
The work involved renovating the sewer pipes of the entire house using the soaking method. Dipping was chosen as the method of renovation because of its ease of implementation. The couple didn’t want to undertake a job the size of a traditional sewer renovation, where all the pipes would have had to be dug up.
– The other method would have involved a much bigger renovation. With the submerged method, there was no need to dig up the drains,” says Lauri.
The renovation was carried out in July, according to the agreed schedule. Work started on Monday and finished on Thursday. The couple lived at home throughout the renovation. Lauri cites the focus on temporary toilet solutions as a development in housing. The pellet toilet supplied instead of the chemical toilet was not the best option, according to Lauri.
– It’s something that’s worth rethinking,” Lauri sums up.
Otherwise, according to Lauri, living during the renovation was almost normal, although it was not possible to put water down the drains.
– The work went smoothly and within the agreed timeframe. And you could live in it at the same time, Lauri sums up.
“The drains now seem to be working properly”
Lauri has been pleased with the outcome of the graft. The symptoms of a blockage have now disappeared and the drains are draining properly. The couple were left with nothing to clean up after the end of their work for Taloturva.
