Water heating system – Do these before the heating season starts
It is a good idea to check the operation of your water heating system before the heating season starts. At the same time, it is a good idea to check the general condition of the heating network. If your heating network is more than 35 years old, you should also consider replacing it.
Checklist for water heating systems:
- Air the radiators.
- Check the operation of thermostats and valves.
- Check if the water pump is running and at what speed. If the temperature of the return water from the heating network is too high, reduce the speed.
- Check the control curve for the outlet water temperature.
- Check the pressure in the heating network and add water if necessary. The pressure in the heating network should be approx. 1bar when the water is warm.

When should you consider upgrading your heating network?
If the heating network in your house is more than 35 years old, you should consider replacing it. A renewed heating network will save you money on energy costs and give you peace of mind. An old heating network can also cause water damage to the house structures if it leaks. Often, leaks in the heating network are small, insidious seeps that take a long time to be detected. Leaks in the heating network can be monitored by a pressure gauge. If you have to add water to the heating system, it always means some kind of leak somewhere in the system. Water does not disappear from the network by itself.
